![]() Symptoms of a failed phase inverter would be low volume, distortion, at least mild to possibly significant buzz. While a stage in a Single ended amp may in fact (often does) invert the signal, that would not be its purpose, so refering to it as a phase inverter would result only in a puzzled look from whomever you were talking to. Obviously, Solid State rectifiers allow for much more variation in design in a finite amount of space. Some terms to look for: Half Wave, Full Wave, Voltage Doubler, Bridge. The rectifier may be tube or solid state, and there are lots of variations. That's where the rectifier (along with filters) comes in. One is part of the power supply, and the other is part of making a proper signal for the power stage (finals) to amplify.Īll stages need smooth, stable DC voltage to run on. ![]() How the Power supply converts AC to DC (The rectifier) has nothing to do with the Phase Inverter.
